Surf films and documentaries to watch at home

We are living a very unconventional situation these days. State of alarm, confinement and a global pandemic that we just can fight staying at home. We have to follow the government’s recommendations and stay home to beat COVID-19. We all love to enjoy outdoors, but we can also do plenty of activities at home. For example: watch films. Today we bring you a list of movies and documentaries inspired by surfing, which are perfect if you are jonesing for surfing. This quarantine will be mucho more pleasant if we are watching waves and surf stories inside our screens. Remember to combine these chill sessions on the sofa with physical exercise to stay healthy and fit. We all must be prepared for our return to the beach!

So, we made a compilation of 11 surf films and documentaries of different genres to watch during these days of confinement.

The Endless Summer (1966)

A classic. The most famous surf documentary. Its director Bruce Brown follows two young surfers who are looking for the perfect waves all over the world. During their journey they find perfect waves and more than one memorable character.

View from a Blue Moon (2015)

Shot entirely in 4K, ‘View from a Blue Moon’ follows John John Florence catching waves all over the world leaving us amazing footage and getting closer to the talented Hawaiian surfer. A visual wonder in all aspects.

Biopic about legendary surfer Jay Moriarty when he first prepared and surfed “Mavericks”. Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler) trains him for this task while a unique friendship will emerge to transform their lives.

Surf’s Up (2007)

To finish we offer you this crazy series B action comedy. With a very low budget, this film from the late 80s presents us a post-apocalyptic future in which a group of neo-Nazi want to dominate the beaches of California, which will unleash to a battle led by the avenging mother of one of the victims of Nazi surfers

So, there is our little list of surf films and documentaries for all tastes. From Latas Surf we encourage you to take this situation with optimism and patience, following the government’s recommendations. We will surf again at Somo and Loredo Beach with you all.
