Yago Dominguez spent a few days in our surfcamp enjoying surfing in Cantabria.
Yago Domínguez has a natural talento for table sports. He’s from the Basque Country and with only 17 years, Yago is competing around the world and he dominates surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. It’s difficult to say at which sport he’s better, because he really stands out with the three disciplines and we can asure that the future of this three sports and its nacional representation will go through Yago. In fact, he’s already at pro competitions like the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2019. Brands, like Pukas, Quicksivler or Yow, are sponsoring and helping him since a while too. Give Yago a board and he makes magic, it doesn’t matter if he’s in the water, surrounded by snow or in a skatepark.
This past summer Yago came to our surfcamp in Cantabria (Spain) with some friend, who also are young promises to national surf: Fernando Bacallado (@ferbacallado) y Lucas Buatois (@lucasbuatois). They were surfing for a few days at the Somo Beach training for a local competition. Although there wasn’t the best wave conditions, you can see Yago pumping these little waves, and doing aerials, at this video we made when he was at Latas Surf.
Yago and his friends spent a few days enjoying our surfhouse, skating and surfing in Cantabria. We did a small interview with Yago:
When did you start surfing?
Y: I started surfing when I was 6.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting to surf?
Y: To enjoy and have fun.
If you could choose, where would yo go surfing right now?
Y: To Bali!
Do you have a favourite beach?
Y: Mundaka is my favourite wave
What do you thing about Somo Beach and the Northern Coast of Spain for surfing?
Y: At Somo Beach you can surf almost every day of the year. The coast of northern Spain is awesome, you have great waves everywhere.
What is your surf dream and aspirations?
Y: I would like to get to the CT or living making surf videos, etc…
Which wave would you like to surf?
Y: Stephany Gilmore
If you had to choose between surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding, which one would you choose?
Y: Wow… It would depend on the conditions… haha but some good barrels is what I like the most.
And finally, what do you think about Latas Surf?
Y: Amazing place with an awesome atmosphere, and next to the beach❤️💪🏻
Yago Domínguez was surfing in Cantabria just a few week before going to California with the junior national surf team to the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2019.
As Yago says “some good barrels” are amazing and, although is so cool to se him skating or flying at the snowpark, we are here for surfing, and Yago’s skills and style surfing a wave becomes an awesome show. Yago has been representing Spain in the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2019, the junior surf world that took place between October 26th and November 3th at Huntington Beach, California.
The Spain junior team was great at the championship, achieving the 4th place, where Yago had an spectacular exhibition who individually finished as the 9th world’s best at the under-18 category. ¡Yeah!
At team’s competition, the Aloha Cup, the young surfers got the 2nd place thanks to the work and effort of the 12 athletes and 4 coaches who make up the junior team.
